Though the actual show happened a while back (15 January at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Mumbai) and the results were known beforehand, the viewers were finally able to see the telecast of one of the most anticipated Bollywood award ceremonies, The Filmfare Awards (2016), which are also known as The Red Carpet Awards of India, on Sony Television on 7th February 2016.
Every individual joining the Film industry dreams of having the elegant black lady of The Filmfare Awards in his/her hands one day. Attended by who’s who of the Bollywood, the 61st Britannia Filmfare Awards was packed with stars, style, suaveness and sophistication.
Did you know that the stars start preparing for the awards night way in advance, making sure they look the best in their designer couture, as this is the night where friends, foes, rivals, all come together and every inch of how they look is observed scrutinously.
Though it has been known for a while now which star/starlet was wearing what label, it is perhaps best to talk about it now as most of our fashion loving readers must have watched the show last Sunday and have the various star attires and ensembles fresh in their minds.
And with that in mind, SOUL thought of coming up with its own ‘Soul Style Titles’, giving away our own style titles (both hits and misses) to the most deserving of the fashionistas.
Lady in Red!
Hit: Well, the Lady in Back (Filmfare trophy) was deservingly handed over to the Lady in Red, Deepika Padukone, who looked resplendent in her red full-sleeved gown by designer duo Ralph and Russo. She accessorized it with red ruby diamond earrings and luscious red lips.
Miss: Ileana D’Cruz came on stage to give away the Best Supporting Actress award to PeeCee. Coincidentally it was the other ‘Lady in Red’, DeePee, who came to receive the award on behalf of PC. Ileana looked pretty in her red ‘sweet heart’ neck and studded bodice gown by Nachiket Barve. However, the fitting of the gown or the cut seemed a little disorganized, making Ileana look a little broader from the waist down.
Vision in White!
Hit: If you have seen the show you can probably guess who we are talking about. Yes, we are talking about Sonam Kapoor, who never goes wrong with her clothes (we won’t comment on her choices elsewhere). SK indeed looked like a vision in white, dressed in her favorite designer’s outfit – an Anamika Khanna lehenga. Her subtle make up and statement jewelry (emerald and diamond studded neckpiece) by Heeramaneck and Son was a pure vision.
Hit: Aditi Rao Hydari looked every inch a royal that she is (born into two royal lineages, that of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari and J. Rameshwar Rao of erstwhile Raja of Wanaparthy family) in a white Gauri & Nainika gown. Her hair swept to one side and makeup in earthy tones – made her look charming.
Miss: Madhuri Dixit – sorry to have put our yesteryear dhak-dhak girl in the miss category, but we had no choice. Dressed in Indian attire – an embellished saree by designer duo, Abu Jani & Sandip Khosla – Mrs. Nene’s look looked pretty boring and outdated. The only saving grace was MD’s beautiful smile which still manages to keep away a yawn!
The Lady in Black!
Hit: This title this year can go to only one candidate who has packed herself in a new body avatar. Parineeti Chopra looked absolutely relaxed in her ‘thigh-slit’ Shivan and Narresh gown, accessorized with her “RELAX” clutch. The new confident PC (she is also PeeCee’s cousin) looked smoking hot with her smoky eye and strappy sandals. The ‘lady in black’ was styled by Sanjana Batra.
Miss: Jacquelin Fernandez – The Sri Lankan beauty wore a Hussein Bazaza black asymmetric gown. The fishnet gown was anything but interesting.
Huma Quershi (she is not generally known for her fashion sense) wore a one shouldered gown by Mayyur Girotra (yes, the same designer who designed SK’s lehenga in Coldplay’s Hymn for the Weekend). With short hair and pink lipstick, Huma looked pretty mundane.
Other Notables!
Some other names that deserve to be mentioned are that of Alia Bhatt, Raveena Tandon and Bhumi Pednekar (yes, the Dum Laga ke Haisha girl). Coincidentally both (Raveena & Bhumi) wore Manish Malhotra creations. While the ‘mast mast’ Raveena chose to wear an indo-western Benarasi lehenga ensemble and a kundan double-stranded necklace, Bhumi wore a traditional Banarasi lehenga with a judith Leiber clutch, and jewelry from Gehna and Anmol.
Last but not the least, is our ‘Bhatt’ baby, Alia Bhatt. Alia wore a Sachin and Babi dress, but what stood out were her 2 different colored ‘Pumps’ (bet many of you missed it).
What do you think of the Soul Style Titles? Don’t forget to leave your feedback.
