Developed as an eco-friendly measure, solar power generation capacity will be expanded unlimitedly at Wonderla, Hyderabad.
Hyderabad, September 20th, 2016:
The newly opened Wonderla Amusement Park, Hyderabad, has become the first amusement park in the country to set up a solar plant with an installed capacity of 500kW. Mr Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Secretary, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications Department, Government of Telangana inaugurated the solar unit on the park premises on September 20th.
The move is seen as a firm step in Wonderla’s endeavour to build environment-friendly parks in India. The installed solar plant will generate 2000kWh daily and it is expected cater to 25 percent of Wonderla’s daily power requirement; which can be enhanced to 1000kW.
Speaking after the launch, Mr Jayesh Ranjan congratulated Wonderla Hyderabad for the initiative and expressed complete support to the destination in its green endeavours. “Our government is committed to green energy and we firmly believe the future lies in renewable energy. Telangana renewable energy measures are well appreciated and we have been in the forefront among several states in setting up solar and wind units. I congratulate Wonderla for the initiative, and more private institutions should come forward in this direction.”
Commenting on the same, Mr Arun Chittilappilly, MD, Wonderla Holidays said, “I am pleased to announce that the Solar Power plant at Wonderla Hyderabad has been operationalized. This is in line with our efforts to build eco-friendly parks to enable sustainable entertainment. All our parks already have green facilities like rain water harvesting system, zero discharge water treatment plants, solar water heater systems etc. Now our Hyderabad facility takes this a step ahead by being the 1st park in India to have own Solar Power plant”.
These solar panels have been installed as the roof shades for the massive parking arena located within the premises of the theme park. The panels are on structures with clear height of 5 meter allowing cars and buses to be safely parked under the shade. The company is said to be using polycrystalline “high module efficiency” panels, and is fitted with advance monitoring systems that can help monitor the facility from anywhere in the world. As per the company officials the initial trial run results have been very encouraging.
Wonderla plans to raise the generation capacity in a phased manner at Hyderabad park while 300kw expansion has been planned at Bengaluru and Kochi parks. To promote the idea of Sustainable Entertainment, Wonderla has also instituted Wonderla Environment & Energy Conservation Awards for schools for encouraging and recognizing their efforts in environment protection.
