Come Raksha Bandhan and the TV’s are replete with Cadbury’s famous celebration ads for this popular Bro-Sis Fest where one fights and the other makes faces and in the end chocolates are exchanged and the Bhai-Behan duo hug each other lovingly, forget the rest and celebrate the fest.
Being a very important festival for the Hindu’s, Raksha-Bandhan, which literally means ‘safety band’, is a fest where the sister ties Rakhi on her brothers hand for his long living and in exchange gets expensive gifts along with lots of love and a promise of protection forever. So how about doing something special for your Bhaiya this Raksha Bandhan?

In this Raksha-Bandhan special, SOUL, along with Bhumi Rajgor, brings you two such indian sweet dish recipes which will make your brother proud for having a sister who can not only cook well but also has mastered the art of culinary presentation!
- Pan Baskets
- 100 grams crumbled paneer
- 4 teaspoons milk
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons paan paste
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- Few drops rose essence
- For the Filling
- 50 grams crumbled paneer
- 2 tablespoons cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 20 grams desiccated coconut
- 2 teaspoons rose syrup
- Tutti-frutti for decoration
- Method
- Knead paneer, milk and sugar well. Add the paan paste, cardamom powder and essence. Shape the dough into basket shape. Mix the ingredients for the filling. Top it up with tutti frutti
- Imarti
- 100 grams urad dal
- 2 tablespoons rice flour
- Yellow/orange food color
- For the sugar syrup
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
- Few strands saffron
- Ghee for frying
- Method
- Soak the dal in water for six hours. Grind into a thick batter. Add in corn flour and color. Set aside for two hours. In a sauce pan, boil sugar and water until it reaches one thread consistency. Add in lemon juice and saffron strands and keep the syrup warm. Heat the ghee into a shallow pan and pipe in the batter in shape of Imarti’s. Fry on both sides until crisp and immerse in sugar syrup for two minutes. Serve them warm
