We are back to our Grammy Awards 2016 update after PeeCee stole the thunder (not that we are complaining) with her ‘Baywatch’ news last week.
So much happened this time @ the 58th Grammy Awards (2016). The most iconic singer of the 1984 hit song ‘Hello’, Lionel Richie, finally was able to say “Hello” to Adele for the first time. Despite the Los Angeles Staples Center being flooded with the biggest stars, it was Adele whom Lionel Richie was looking forward to meet. Back in 2015 when Adele’s song ‘Hello’ came out (the two singers have songs with same title, “Hello”), Richie had expressed his intention to collaborate with her on a project. “We are going to be doing something together — that’s already almost in the works,” Richie said according to E! News.
Before the Grammys, Richie already had planned his first encounter with the “Rolling in the Deep” singer. “I’m here tonight to meet [Adele] backstage,” he joked, according to ET Online. “I’m looking for her. And my opening line is going to be, ‘Hello, it’s me,’ and she’s going to say, ‘No, no, is it me you’re looking for, thank you very much.'”
Adele performed “All I Ask” in the Grammys, while Richie (who didn’t seem to have aged at all) received his MusiCares award. He also received tribute performances from Demi Lovato, who sung his iconic “hello” song (and got the likes of me all worked up-I love that song), John Legend, Luke Bryan, Meghan Trainor and Tyrese, before he joined the star-studded artists in a memorable rendition of “All Night Long.”
Another noteworthy mention would be that of Taylor Swift. Dressed in a gorgeous color blocking two-piece orange and pink ensemble by Versace, which she styled with a brand-new bob and her signature cat eye, she looked the epitome of grace and style. I personally feel Taylor Swift always carries herself very elegantly and is always full of charm. Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ took the album of the year at the 58th Grammys. Having opened the show with a version of her hit ‘Out of the Woods’, the singer made a defiant acceptance speech which seemed to allude to her argument with Kanye West earlier in the week. The rapper’s new song ‘Famous’, referring to Swift, claims: “I made that bitch famous.”
Its high time Kanye West gave up his ludicrous rants and start focusing on his career and family instead. Swift’s sister-hood with Selena Gomez is known to all and she had tears in her eyes when Taylor went to receive her award. Did you know Taylor once had gotten a Selena temporary tattoo? Now that’s cute!
After the Grammys, it’s time to talk about the desi music scene. The 1998 hit pop album ‘Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat’ (it was a rage back then) singer, Shibani Kashyap, has recreated the song this time for her husband, Rajiv Roda. The song is Kashyap’s Valentine’s Day gift to her husband. The modern version of the song, it is said, was released on 14 February, 2016, under Indian music label Saregama, but we have not been able to find the video online. Well till then, let’s enjoy the old one and go back in the time capsule.
Ho gayee hai mohabbat tumse
Aaein palkon mein khaab banke
Reh gaye sar-aankhon par
Bade hain ahsaan humpe
Dil ne kiya jab asar
Oh, Mil gayee hai amanat tumse
Ho gayee hai mohabbat tumse
Rakhdein sara jahan ki khushiyan
Tumhare kudmon par
Dekhe na mudkar duniya
Awaz de do agar
Oh, Le rahe hai ijazat tumse
Ho gayee hai mohabbat tumse…
