Last weekend I had a quick visit to the silicone city of India, i.e. Bangalore (I still don’t like calling it Bengaluru). Since it was a work meeting, I wasn’t very keen on going all the way into the city and spend most of my time getting frustrated in the traffic. So I choose to stay somewhere near the airport and I found just the perfect property to have a business meeting, as well as, spend the rest of the time leisurely playing Golf (or trying my hands @ golf) and lazing in the roof-top infinity heated pool with a spectacular view at the Hotel Royal Orchid.
The Royal Orchid Hotels Limited has about 3 properties in Bangalore alone and about 33 business and leisure hotels in 21 popular destinations all across India. Mr. Chender K. Baljee, Managing Director of Royal Orchid Hotels Limited., started the organization more than 3 decades ago and today is still directly spearheading the aggressive expansion plans of the group. Renowned for attention to detail and design, Royal Orchid hotels offer myriad options of business hotels ranging from luxurious 5-star hotels to economy business hotels. In 2013, the group made its first international foray with the Royal Orchid Malaika Beach resort at Mwanza. The hotel is situated next to Lake Victoria – the second largest lake in the world and just a short drive to the Serengeti National Park. There are two more hotels in the pipeline foreseen at Nairobi and Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania.
The Royal Orchid, especially the one close to the airport, I would say is one of the best hotel in HAL airport road Bangalore with a favorable location that is close to the Central Business District area, with various business areas and shopping opportunities as well as a hospital close by. The rooms of the Hotel (most of them) open up to the views of the lush green 18-hole golf course managed by Karnataka Golf Association.
The Hotel with its exterior got me all nostalgic about my few years spent in the UK as the façade reminded me so much of the old British brick and wood appearance with creepers climbing all across and gazebos at every next step. The interiors itself were very much in sync with the exteriors, having high wooden ceilings along with the wall of pictures providing an insight to the hotel’s history and at the same time creating a very inviting look. The rooms are pretty spacious and I loved the way they have played with yellow colour making the room bright and cheery. The room service staff was extremely helpful, friendly and very accommodating with my food fussiness since I live only on Pizza and breads. Having said that I am glad I tried most of their different cuisines and finally let go my pizza obsession and gorged on the amazing rolled out sushi. Ginseng restaurant at Hotel Royal Orchid has also won a National Record in the Limca Book of Records 2013 for the innovative initiative of creating the largest Maki Sushi.
Royal Orchid seems to have most of the positivity that a hotel should offer, be it a great location, interiors, friendly staff and food. It ticks all the boxes and the additional benefits are the golf course and the infinity pool. I personally can’t wait to go back there once again.
SOUL Tip: It goes without saying that go for a golf view room. The hotel overall isn’t noisy but if you want a tad more privacy then go for the rooms on higher floors.
