Happy days are here for the make-up junkies in India! Nykaa, the home-grown online cosmetic and beauty care online portal, and now a cosmetic giant have launched one of America’s most sought-after brands ‘The Balm’ cosmetics. It is a sigh of relief for make-up addicts who love to experiment with their make-up, have an eye for bespoke international brands and aim to stock up on their make-up collection. With the boom in fashion and beauty blogging in India, make-up lovers are getting enlightened to the fineries and hacks of doing flawless make-up like a pro and at the same time are being exposed to multiple quality brands in the make-up world.
The Balm was founded by Marissa Shipman who after a successful stint on Television was determined to come up with her exclusive beauty brand. The first product created by her was a lip balm as it was considered to be the easiest recipe and hence ‘The Balm’ was born. After securing a contract with Sephora for distribution in its five outlets, there has been no looking back for The Balm! The philosophy behind the brand is to offer rudimentary and capsule make-up products that are a must-have in every fashionista’s make-up bag. The kitschy 50s inspired retro packaging is interesting and makes it stand out from the crowd of its counterparts!
So what can you expect from The Balm?
Lips – In the Lip range, there’s Read my lips lip gloss, Meet Matt (e) Hughes long lasting liquid lipsticks (P.S. Matte liquid lipsticks are a rage this year), Girls lipsticks and Pick-up liners lip liners. The liquid lipsticks are wittily named after traits like ‘sentimental’, ‘devoted’, ‘dedicated’, ‘sincere’, ‘committed’, ‘doting’, ‘trustworthy’, ‘chivalrous’, ‘honest’, ‘adoring’, ‘loyal’ and ‘charming’. These twelve-range of liquid lipsticks with a matte finish have rich plum tones to bold earthy tones and will complement women with skin of cool tones to warmer tones respectively.
My major gripe with the The Balm lipsticks is that it has a limited range of six colors and is a big downer to accommodate the wide palette of Indian skin tones.
Eyes – If eye make-up is your thing, then The Balm packs a punch with dope mascaras that promise to voluminize and add drama by creating faux-like lashes and as a bonus, it has been made with a non-clump formula. Now that is something I am rooting for!
And then there are the smoky eye-shadow palettes that comes in two sets to let you create enigmatic smokey eyes and turn heads. The 2-in- 1 eyebrow and eye-liner brush that comes in an angular tip to give you a firm grasp during your eyebrow routine, multi-functional eye make-up brush, eye-make- up remover that boasts of a spill-proof formula and finally the much talked about nude dude eyeshadow palette that features 12 nude shades definitely give eyeshadow goals.
Face – There’s a plethora of options for those who are keen on face make-up. From blush to concealer and primer to anti-shine translucent powder for all those who love to channel nude make-up, and the lucrative 3-in-1 highlighter, eye-shadow and shimmer.
A special mention goes to the ‘Balm voyage Vol.2 face palette’ which is a capsule edition of make-up essentials all packed into a travel-friendly make-up palette. It comprises of nine triple-milled eyeshadows which are versatile enough to be used both wet and dry, two blushes, a bronzer, a highlighter and two lip-and-cheek creams. For the woman-on-the-go I would definitely recommend this. This product is priced at 2799 INR.
And did I mention that the products are all paraben and cruelty-free? So hurry up and grab your favourite ‘The Balm’ products from Nykaa and don’t forget to let us know which one sealed the deal for you!
