So last weekend it was my BFF’s anniversary and we had planned to pamper ourselves (yes, only the ladies, wink wink), sans the husbands.
But don’t worry readers; we had something fun planned for the spouses as well which we will talk about later. So I got spa reservations done at the O2SPA– Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre. Now honestly I am not a big fan of Novotel Hotel, especially the Convention one (Hyderabad has 2 Novotel properties), as the lobby seems like a mall arcade where it’s usually busy with throngs of people going about. But the food is pretty good at their restaurant, ‘The Square’, especially the buffet spread (and the spouses can eat to their hearts fill) and the management is quite obliging as well. The F&B Manager makes sure your every whim and fancy is fulfilled within reasons.
So once we arrived with our spouses in tow, a surprise awaited for the anniversary couple. Being a weekend, I thought why not stay back in the luxury of the hotel rather than driving back with a heavy stomach (post buffet) and, of course, one cannot drive if you have consumed alcohol beyond the driving limit.
So the duty manager in charge, Mr. Arindam Ghosh, was gracious enough to let us know all the facilities that we could use which came with our room. Now this is the best part; we were located on the ‘Premier Floor’ which has facilities like 24 Hour Hotline Service & complimentary facilities at the Premier Lounge and a view to die for. One can actually sit with a cup of coffee or a drink (as one pleases) and stare out of the window for hours. It’s a treat to see so much of open space in the otherwise densely populated Hyderabad. So much of foliage actually makes you forget where you are. It’s therapeutic!
So while we ladies went for our spa, the men headed to the Premier Lounge as the ICC World T20 Match was on and there was unlimited booze (I promised we had something for the spouses as well. What’s better than booze and cricket?).
In short, spa was great and so was the lounge. The attendants were pretty attentive and it wasn’t even much crowded. It almost felt that we had the lounge to ourselves. I would suggest the readers to always go for rooms at the Premier Floor with the lounge privileges, i.e. if you don’t mind shelling out extras but it’ll be worth the money. Did I say I also bumped into Tollywood’s biggest star, Chiranjeevi, who was there for some promotion and was staying on the same floor! So it’s not just the food or the drinks or the comfort which make the lounge attractive but if you are lucky you may spot a star or two relaxing at the same lounge as you.
The rooms at the PL were not extravagant but not bad either. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from Novotel because it falls into the Accor Groups of Hotel which are not known for luxury and opulence but mainly known for catering to Business Travel needs. But I will add that if you are travelling to Europe then without eyes blink go for Novotel because since the rooms are painfully small in Europe chances are you won’t go wrong with a known-brand.
The only glitch which I found with the Novotel Hyderabad was the pushing calls that one gets to buy their membership cards. My God, it’s difficult to shake them off and once you do agree to go for the membership and pay the same, they royally ignore you and move on to the next prey.
