Hey all! Remember we at Soul reported about the historic collaboration between Rihanna and iconic brand Puma that gave birth to a kickass and plush capsule sportswear collection? It not only pepped up Puma’s image, but also gave us athleisure goals – one of the hottest trends of 2016! Well, the news is that our bad girl Riri won the Shoe Of The Year Award from footwear news, which is touted as the Oscars of the shoe world.
Her Fenty Puma creeper sneakers were the ones that catapulted her to this victory at the 30th Annual Footnews Achievement Awards in New York. The 28 year old recording artist created history by becoming the first woman to earn such an honour in the respective category. The ‘Love the way you lie’ singer wears many hats. She is an actress as well as a fashion designer. Earlier she had collaborated with coveted brands like River Island and Manolo Blahnik.
For the Award night, she treaded in athleisure style as she slayed in a shirt that has “securite” printed on the back and the chest. Being bold and unconventional, she skipped wearing a bra underneath. She finished off the look with a coordinated black skirt, baseball cap, FentyxPuma sneakers, blinged-out gloves, a dazzling choker and emerald earrings from Chopard’s High Jewelry Collection. I must say that only Riri could pull off this look and make it appear sassy! “I didn’t expect people to love it the way I do, and the way they’ve supported it means so much to me”, said the Russian Roulette singer, beaming in the glory of her inspiring victory.
Apart from our favourite Barbados singer, Milan-based shoe designer Nicol`o Beretta founder of the Giannico Brand won the Vivian Infantino Emerging Talent Award. At 21, Nicol`o Beretta became the youngest winner in the Footwear News Achievement Awards history. Ren`e Caovilla won the Hall of Fame Award presented by Hilton Rothschild.
Other winners at the Footwear News Achievement Awards were Paul Andrew, VetementsxManola Blahnik, Aldo Blensadoun, Mark King, Foot locker, Kith, Schutz, Nike, Gucci, Chiara Ferragni, Iris Apfel, John Varvatos and Linda Fargo.
Keep it coming Riri! Till then stay in style and don’t forget to wear your smile!
