Come summer and we all get nervous with anticipation as to how are we going to get by the four months of extremely unbearable prickly heat? Perhaps the only consoling thing about summer that we can think of is that we would finally get to have those lovely ripened Mangoes we dream of throughout the year. The ‘King of the fruits’ in all its yummy plump glory gets our mouths watering with just the thought of it. Mangoes, Mango Shake, Mango Matho, ManGo I(ce)T and so many other Mango based drinks and numerous mango based dishes are a great hit with people of all age group.
Today we along with our Dr. Chef, Shivangi Sharma, get you one quick-fix-mango-based-rejuvenator to beat the heat. “Mango Ice Tea” is perhaps one of the easiest and quickest drinks to be made. So go on, take those Mangoes and start rolling.
INGREDIENTS:
– 2 hibiscus flowers (organic)
– 1 cinnamon stick
– 375 ml alphonso mango pulp
– 3 teaspoons tea leaves or 2-3 tea bags
– 1 liter water
– ½ or ¾ tbsp. lemon juice or as required
– Sugar as per taste
– Mint leaves for garnishing
INSTRUCTIONS:
Wash your flowers and remove petals carefully from the stamen and base. Take 1 liter of water (room temperature) and put petals with cinnamon stick in it and let it steep in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours. Peel and chop the mangoes. Puree them in a blender and refrigerate. Take the prepped water and strain it. Heat the water. Add the tea and stir. Cover and let the tea steep in the hot water for 5-7 minutes. Strain and keep the tea in the fridge. Once the tea is cooled, remove from the fridge. Pour the tea in a blender. Add the mango puree, lemon juice and sugar to the tea. Blend everything till smooth. Serve the mango ice tea with some ice cubes garnished with mint leaves.
SOUL Tip – Don’t forget to soak the mangoes for few hours in water before consuming them to release the heat. And for people who don’t have time or patience, they can be refrigerated also to release the heat.
