It was the third day of the FDCI’s India Couture Week 2016 and Anamika Khanna’s latest couture line left the audience charmed and fascinated. Held off-site at the grand ballroom of the Leela Palace, the collection titled ‘When Time Stood Still’ wove a beautiful tale of romance and left everyone present spell-bound while the background scores of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra set the mood for a magical evening.
The most impressive part of the evening was the use of real live models on which Anamika told the reports, “The whole idea behind the live models was to make time still. These installations were of people, who are at a party and the time stood still. Times when people are busy on their mobile phones, it was an attempt to feel the emotion.”
The collection treaded the border between the traditional and the contemporary beautifully, with traditional embroideries like kalamkari, zardosi and dori work embellished on modern silhouettes and designs done in organza and georgette. The colour palette went from the softest of the white, beige, gold, and salmon pink, to the deeper tones of celadon green, fiery red, black and yellow. Known for her experimental designs, the collection had everything from sequined, structured jackets to heavily embellished and hand-woven gold embroidered lehengas that had 3D flower petals on them. Models strutted on the ramp in ‘sharara’-inspired palazzos, long-trailed anarkalis and contemporary variations on sarees. The statement jewelry by the heritage jewelry house Amrapalli Jaipur consisted of rubies, emeralds, and diamonds done on a golden base that gleamed brightly.
Many industry stalwarts like Manish Malhotra, Varun Bhal, Manav Gangwani, Pernia Qureshi and actress Sonam Kapoor cheered for the edgy designer from the front row. Sonam Kapoor also gave a shout-out to Anamika, one of her favourite designers, on her Instagram account.
