“Life’s too short to wear boring clothes”
Fashion is nothing if there is no drama, no spice, no risk and no fun. When it comes to personal style and perfection there’s no stopping Sonam Kapoor. The Bollywood’s resident fashionista known for her unpredictable yet impeccable sense of style emerges as the trendsetter and steals the thunder wherever she sets her foot.
The Cannes red carpet is an acid test for celebrities to win over the fashion police. You either nail it or get nailed! Being a Loreal Ambassador Cannes is an annual ritual for our Fashionista Kapoor and she does justice to her perennial appearance like no other. Whether it is the white structured gown by Jean Paul Gaultier in 2011 or the salmon tone-on-tone cape sari-blouse by Anamika Khanna she worn in 2014 Sonam Kapoor’s Cannes fashion has spawned conversation and grabbed headlines.
When it comes to taking risks, Sonam Kapoor is always dare to experiment! Her pearl ‘nathni’ look from Cannes 2013 failed to sweep up unanimous votes from the fashion jury and her last year’s appearance with Elie Saab feather dress with a trail was subjected to incessant trolls and memes. Despite all the controversies, there is no denying that she shines through her every appearance and reminds the world that fashion is nothing if it does not leave an impact.
Let me take you to a quick tour of Sonam Kapoor’s Cannes 2016 wardrobe which also happens which also happens to be her sixth year in a row at the French Riviera:
Can’t do without Anamkia Khanna!
How can the actress not go for her eternal favourite designer if she is in French Riviera! At the Nice airport she was seen in a bold yet signature Anamika Khanna ivory ensemble. For her press meet on Day 1 she was spotted in a standout custom-made Anamika Khanna printed number that came with a co-ordinated long jacket with high collar and a blue interior detailing. She finished off her look with statement earrings, bright-pink lips and pastel blue nails.
The off-beat sari route again!
At the International red carpet she does sari like no other Indian actress! She brings in freshness with her every look and chooses to don the most unconventional sari on the rack! This year she was seen in a Rimzim Dadu futuristic molten wire sari done in the contrast of statement blue and the ever reliable black on Day 1. The designer created ripples among fashion lovers at the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2016 with her brand of couture that produced a visual spectacle with a strong surface and experimentation with fabrics. With eye-catching floral motif ear-piece from her go-to jewellery designer Suhani Pittie, intense blue eye-liner and pink lips, Princess Kapoor cut a striking picture and how!
It’s raining Ralph & Russo
It looks like Ralph & Russo emerged as the designer of the year at Cannes! Miss Kapoor picked up one stunning number after another and made us go green in envy. She inaugurated her red carpet journey at Cannes sizzling in a white cape gown embellished with silk threadwork, silver bullion, crystals and beads embroidery with a cutwork at the shoulder. The silk crepe gown stood out for its cape that emerged from the right shoulder and was concluded with a counter train to the left side of the waist. According to experts, the gown might have been custom-made for fashionista as it is inspired from the designer’s Spring/Summer collection 2016. She finished off the look in a matching choker that made it appear like a part of the couture. She balanced off the dramatic look with bare-minimum jewellery comprising of stud earrings, white rock ring, nude lips and straight hair. Loved the can’t-take-my-eyes-off-you effect that was created by adding white highlights to the contours of her kohl-eyes!
For the premiere of ‘Loving’ she was seen in another custom-made off-shoulder white cape gown from Ralph & Russo. The elaborate cape sewn with flowers made her look straight out of the fairytales. The fitted look at the bust and the gradual flare at the end beautifully complemented her silhouette. With hair done up in an immaculate, the choker and ear stud as accessories the Fashion Tsarina weaved magic once again!
At the Chopard Party she vouched for a black ballroom gown completed with coordinated black lace gloves. The upper part had a bustier whereas the lower part was all flare concluding in a beautiful voluminous ruffled fall. Hair done up in a neat bun with a middle parting, bold red pout and the most gorgeous Chopard diamond choker finished off her look. My heart skipped and I sure yours too!
On Day 2 for her first look she embraced for another number from the designer but this time it was a mid-length dress with linear pattern from the designer. The mid-riff baring printed black dress with its peplum detailing at the waist exuded chic-feminine vibe. I am already gushing over the outfit. The Suhani Pittie ear jewellery added subtle quirk to the feminine vibe and culminated to a synchronized look for her press meet!
She has a thing for White
Well white being a classic colour is a must-have for every fashionista’s wardrobe. She knows it and does it as a pro everytime! The two Ralph & Russo white numbers are proof enough. My favourite white dress of hers is the Dolce & Gabbana macro floral printed dress that she wore in Cannes 2013. Loved the way the dress created the appearance of a blooming flower petal!
Debut at amfAR gala
This is the first time in the history of her Cannes journey that she attended the amfAR gala. She channelled her inner Elsa with a gold embroidered gown from (yes no point for guessing) Ralph & Russo and accessorized with jhumkas from Kalyan jewellers! The messy braid and that radiant smile, Sonam looked every bit the enchantress! Loved the desi touch!
Her Cannes 2016 lookbook is signature Sonam Kapoor– fairytale gowns, the alternative sari, dramatic make-up and the fearless approach to fashion. We love you fashion diva for bestowing us with one dazzling appearance after the other and taking Indian fashion to the global peak with your panache, personality and novelty. Keeping it coming, you are fashion goals!
