I think every day is a Women’s Day because it is a woman who never has any respite, whatsoever, from her daily chores of looking after everybody around her.
But honestly, I wouldn’t want it any different way. I firmly believe God created this wonderful creation called ‘woman’ to be an emotional provider and caregiver, add stability to life, and bring love and warmth into the lives of everybody around her.
“Women have always been the strong ones of the world. The men are always seeking from women a little pillow to put their heads down on. They are always longing for the mother who held them as infants.” said Coco Chanel. Whereas men are known to be the provider, women are known to be the giver.
What is a home without its woman?
A child without his/her mother?
A man without his lady?
It’s like an ocean without water.
But today with the changing times, women want to be at par with the men. Nothing wrong in that but I personally feel that women were created for a certain role and they really shouldn’t be abdicating it. When we look at the basic fundamental differences between a Man and a Woman, it’s very clear that men are more aggressive whilst women are more emotional. While men provide physical strength, women provide emotional strength. While men are not very adaptable to changes, women are very comfortable in doing so. Marriages are an amalgamation of sacrifices and adjustments. Most of the time, it is the woman who does it and that’s why the marriage lasts. If a woman tries to draw a line or starts bringing her ego in between, chances are the marriage will collapse in a very short period of time. Having said that, I do not mean that a woman should be a pushover. They should be mature enough to know what and how important certain issues are before plunging headstrong into it. Man on the other hand should appreciate what a woman sacrifices to be with him. There should be respect and understanding between the two rather than equality or one’s upper hand. As a human being, I believe everybody is equal to one another. They are here to play different roles and handle different departments of life. Though women certainly are capable of playing any role, be it a homemaker or a business woman, with equal ease.
Coming back to the celebrations of Women’s Day, did you know on 28 February, 1909, the Socialist Party of America celebrated the first Woman’s Day by honoring female garment workers who were protesting against poor working conditions? International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries to commemorate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women around the world. It is also a day to remember the struggles women face and honor the accomplishments they have made.
So how do we celebrate this day?
I spoke to one of my colleagues and asked her what she had planned for the IWD. To my surprise she told me she was going out in the night with her girlies for partying and had gotten a room booked where they all will crash after getting completely pissed drunk at the bar. Next day they have spa lined up for them, followed by a scrumptious buffet lunch and then they will all head to their respective homes to be with their spouse/boyfriends/family, have a quiet dinner and off to bed.
Not bad at all, what do you think? I wouldn’t mind an hour long spa for myself. Let’s take a look at some of the dos and don’ts for this year’s IWD.
– Most of the pubs/clubs must be hosting Ladies Night to celebrate the IWD. Boozing, dancing and basically throwing all the caution to the wind is not a bad idea for a fun filled night. But for the ladies who don’t have a room booked in the premises itself should make sure they have the designated driver to pick them up after their fun night.
– Also try to be cautious and hang out in groups and lookout for one another. I bet there will be many Lotharios waiting to get lucky.
– Do check out the Spa and Body massage parlors in your area and see what all packages they are offering.
– If all the spas are booked (and it may be the case), how about calling the local ‘maalish wali bai’ and enjoy the massage desi style (also dirt cheap monetary wise) in the comfort of your home?
– Light some candles, therapeutic music and your favorite oil/lotion to be rubbed followed by a luxurious bubble bath?
– After such a wondrous massage (hope it’ll be), there are chances one would feel lazy and sleepy and in no mood to step outside the comfort of the pj’s. Order take-in from your favorite restaurant, have a few gal pals over and have a nice afternoon pajama party.
– And towards the evening when it’s time for your Man to return from work (hopefully with some nice gift or flowers), have a nice quiet dinner where he gets to tell you how lucky he is to have you in his life (wink wink)
– Did we forget something? Shopping? It’s just a click away.
SOUL wishes all its readers Happy Women’s Day!
