You just celebrated a 5 year anniversary of CKL Interiors. Tell us something about how the company was formed and a little about the company?
Thank you for the warm wishes. Yes my baby is 5 years old now. It seems just yesterday when I was working as a Marketing Manager in Avis, Norway. During that time I had bought a chandelier for one of my friends. Incidentally the chandelier was made in the same workshop that I am currently working with. The chandelier was well appreciated by my friends and few others showed interest which got me into a thinking mode. Creating something gives a different satisfaction (mentally rewarding) altogether and every day you are inspired by something or the other. After some months of considerations and planning I decided to start a company from scratch. And as you now CKL Interior now celebrates its 5th anniversary and our main activity is sales and marketing of chandeliers produced in our work shop in Sweden.
CKL Interiors promote local art and craftsmanship. Tell us something about it?
I was born in Sweden and I am currently living in Norway. What I observed around me was that a consumer always looks for food produced locally and it wasn’t just the food but also to the furniture and interiors. It gives you a satisfaction of favoring your won craftsmanship rather than opting for some foreign one. I take great pride in promoting and supporting Scandinavian craftsmanship, quality and traditions. When you start a new business and being a small company, key success criteria is to be able to rely on the quality of your product.
CKL Interiors is known for its chandelier?
The art of producing genuine chandeliers was almost completely lost in Scandinavia, but at our small work shop in Sweden, as the only one in this part of the world, we have managed to maintain continuity and hence the tradition and craftsmanship. All our chandeliers are made by hand based on the genuine models and forms from different époques ranging from the 1600 hundreds to the 1800 hundreds. There are few antique chandeliers available in the market today and through our hand made products based on the old models, we are able to offer a genuine high quality chandelier and also at an affordable price.
What’s the process like?
We normally use hand grinded prisms from selected suppliers in the Check Republic and Austria and if requested by clients, also antique prisms or prisms of “Swarovski” quality. All prims are fortified by hand using a thin brass thread and using a method called “Swedish twist”. The chandeliers themselves are forged in brass which is a robust material which secures quality and a long life.
One of our specialties is that we are capable of making chandeliers totally in accordance with special requests or needs of our clients. One example is of a large chandelier designed to fit a particular interior which measures 6 meters high and 3.3 meters wide. We also offer full renovation of antique chandeliers ranging from general cleaning, repair and replacements of prisms, repair or change out of electrical cables etc. A selection of antique mirrors and furniture complement our chandeliers and are therefore part of our concepts.
What are the future plans of CKL Interiors?
That is a very good question!
Most likely we will continue to develop step by step with our chandeliers made in brass and produced in Scandinavia as our core product, with a focus on offering genuine quality at affordable prices. We want to retain our personal involvement in all our deliveries and make sure we always meet our customers’ expectations. So far we have focused on the markets in Scandinavia. In recent months we have delivered our chandeliers to customers in England and in New York. We want to gradually build on these deliveries and move where our customers take us. Not by huge marketing budgets, but through clients and their recommendations.
