With so many different words being coined these days, one of the latest describing the men of our era is spornosexual – men who are obsessed with their looks, physique blah blah!, but who cares what spornosexual stands for when we have our own ‘androgynous’ femme fatales moving around. Yes you read it right Suit Up!… the hottest looking females on the ramp or off the ramp are donning the ‘tuxedos’, ‘pant-suits’, ‘biker jackets with those hot boots’, and are turning up for red carpet events in a dinner-jacket right beside their better ahem! Men, scorching the red carpet with their hotness personified.
Talk about beating men in their own game, Androgyny is the latest bon ton of the fashion world. Well-tailored pants, rolled up sleeves, polished oxford shoes are no longer the exclusive purview of a man but also of a, yes make way for her, our androgynous woman. Gone are the days when tom-boyish looks were reserved for cute looking females with stereotypical short pixie hair and a bit of a manly gait. Today we have some prime examples of women donning the androgynous look (a “Suit Up” look as we call it) and still oozing with what-we-call sexiness in abundance! From renowned actress Angelina Jolie to super model Cara Jocelyn Delevingne to our very own curly-haired raven Kangana Ranaut, everyone is defying the obvious attires appropriate in our society and refusing to conform to the traditional norms.
If we look at the past history, we have always had women showing shades of masculinity either in their attire or attitude. In early 90’s, physiologically speaking, we saw women who were bulky, stocky and not very comfortable in their own skin. In 2000’s we saw the rise of very such women with the distinctiveness of a blasé attitude, bold tattoos and very rock-chick sort of a personality. But now with everything around us evolving and people broadening their mindset and approach furthermore, we have the onset of a new breed of women who are both feminine yet rebellious with a masculine edge. Impudent, charming, mysterious and outrageous is what they are daring with élan and are equally fashionable carrying it off. They don the rebellious tomboy chic look with equal ease and élan as they would any traditional conformist look. From famous fashion houses like Burberry, YSL, Stella McCartney to the high street retailers like Zara, River-Island, all now carry many varieties in Shirts, Suit, Blazer, Jacket sections for our androgynous female to choose from. Call it a style epiphany!
We often see Kristen Stewart wearing her Keds, sometimes even with a nice (if we put it this way) lady-like dress, and she doesn’t care what others think of her. It’s her comfort that matters. This ‘I-don’t-care’ attitude is the motto of women today.
It’s liberating seeing women creating their own niche in the pants donning men’s world. Soul toasts these women and highlights some of the best dressed androgynous look that celebs have recently pulled off! So next time don’t hesitate rummaging through your husband/boyfriend’s clothes collection and you are ready to rock!
