In India, all our festivals are celebrated with much pomp and grandeur and Ganesh Chaturthi happens to be one such festival, but where the celebration goes on for days. Though the Ganesh Chaturthi is for a day, people bring the statue of Ganesha home for 2 days, 4, 7 days or 11 days and every day is a celebration with Bhajan’s, nach-gana, and scrumptious food.
Earlier we featured ‘Modak’, which happens to be Lord Ganesh’s favorite food. So we thought why not give our readers recipe for Ganehsa’s another favorite indulgence Sone ke Ladoo albeit with a twist.
SOUL, along with Chef Aman Tandon (of Pride Hotels), brings you an array of Ganesha’s favourite Sone ke Ladoo, the sweetest sweet for the sweetest Lord Ganesha (the lord of success, and destroyer of evils and obstacles) by his devotees who are also known as ‘Ganapatyas’.
Ingredients
- Gram flour – 1 cup
- Sugar 1.5 cup
- Green cardamom – 6
- Melon seeds – 1.5-2 tbsp
- Oil – 1 tbsp (for mixing in gram flour mixture)
- 500 ml Desi ghee – for frying boondi.
- Caramelized Cashew nuts praline — 500 gms (coarsely grounded )
Method:
- Add sugar to 2 cups of water, heat the mixture while stirring for 4-5 minutes.
- Make single thread consistency sugar syrup
- In another bowl, add besan (gram flour), melon seeds, cardamom seeds and ½ cup of water. Mix it up into a thick consistency.
- Now heat oil in a deep bottom pan. Pour the besan batter through a perforated ladle. The boondis will drop into the pan. Deep fry the boondi for 3-4 minutes and strain them from the oil. Now soak the boondi in the sugar syrup for half an hour. Add ghee to the sugar syrup soaked boondis and roll them up into ladoos between your palms.
Finishing: Coarsely grind the praline mix and dust each ladoo forming a film of lookalike gold fragments.
SOUL Tip: You can also roll the ladoos in Silver-Gold Varak making them look like pretty little ornaments. For health conscious people – roll ladoos in smaller size so that when you start eating them you won’t eat a lot.
