It feels so surreal that 2016 is already coming to an end making us feel we could have done so much more, like meeting those deadlines and finishing those projects. We could have worked a little harder to reach that extra mile and spent more time on the now unwrapped tasks rather than procrastinating and being a lazy bum! But if there’s one person who has really worked hard and put her best foot forward in 2016, it has to be our undisputed resident fashionista from B town, Sonam Kapoor!
Always raved and exalted for her impeccable style, Ms. Kapoor was not much of a favourite with movie critics. Although she shone in movies like Raanjhanaa (2013) and Khoobsurat (2014), it was the male leads Dhanush and Fawad Khan respectively who stole the show. A string of forgettable movies would have dissuaded anyone else’s spirit but Ms. Kapoor stood her grounds and did movies on her own terms and voila, 2016 certainly bore the testimony of her hallmark performance. She walked and talked the part of Neerja Bhanot and presented her fans with an honest, inspiring and indelible movie, Neerja. Hence, it should not come as a surprise that awards flooded her way.
Let me take you guys through a promenade of Fashionista Kapoor’s fresh-out –of-the-oven achievements, what she wore and how she wore it:
- At the Asiavision Awards held in Dubai Sonam Kapoor bagged twin awards. One for her valiant and incandescent performance for Neerja and the second for being an icon. She opted for a Black, velvet, floor-length Caroline Hayden Gown from their Fall-Winter 2016 edition. The turtle neck feature of the gown and the voluminous lower half rendered a timeless appeal. She sealed the look with a Corto Moltedo exaggerated, tasseled clutch, jewellery from Bulgari, make up by Vimi Joshi and a soft bun styled to the perfection by Hiral Bhatia. The simplicity of the look did the trick, although Ms. Kapoor is known for her flamboyance. However, I would have loved to see a soft emerald jewellery piece to accentuate the look and disrupt the monotony of the gown.
- At the Mother Teresa Memorial International Awards she was seen in what looked like a mint green sheer sari by designer Rahul Mishra. The beautiful floral detailing of the sari combined with its pastel hue exuded summery vibes. She polished off her look with quaint earrings from Alpa Khimani and juttis from Needledust. She defined poise!
- Her third award for the month of November was felicitated to her by Brand Vision Awards for being the Global Style Icon. Once again she swore by American label, Caroline Hayden, and radiated panache in a fuchsia silk sequin custom gown. It was an intelligent contrast of aqua blue fine jewellery from Farah Khan that brought the look full circle. I am in absolute love with her Pink themed make up that blended seamlessly with the couture gown. I must say that it was to Miss Kapoor’s credit that she could pull off this look! Kudos!
Here is a hearty congratulations to you, Sonam Kapoor, on your award spree, and also on your impeccable style file!
