Star-studded, scintillating and spectacular the most awaited fashion event of the year is here. Yes you guessed it right. Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2016 is here in its beaming glory and ready to sweep you off your feet with the kaleidoscope of fabrics, designs, tapestry and colours!
The much speculated fashion week was inaugurated by none other than master designer Tarun Tahiliani and this time his collection was inspired by the works of the late contemporary artist Mrinalini Mukherjee’s sculptures in hemp. Gilets, draped skirts, peplums, fringed capes, pleated saris and draped separates dominated the prêt collection. The colour palette was all about burnt orange, cobalt blue, safari green, maroon and black. In other words organic hues defined this ready-to-wear collection that can be styled according to one’s personality and is quite convenient for the woman on the go. Giving the silhouettes company was the ramp decorated with a spider-web crisscross structure that was in conjunction with the abstract language of the designs. Kangna Ranaut was the showstopper.
Bollywood’s go-to designer Manish Malhotra presented a collection for the contemporary and young bride who likes to be whisked away by modern aesthetics while keeping her traditional roots alive. Off-shoulder capes, coruscating trails, busy sequins, floral accents, cold-shoulder maxi dresses, jacket-saris and sheer blouses with striking designs were on display. Not to forget his signature resham threadwork on the garments continued to wow the audience. Shraddha Kapoor walked the ramp for the designer.
Atsu Sekhose was influenced by the Naga shawls and the interpretation blew away our mind. The black and white weave of the shawl was transformed into a graphic avatar. The evening wear collection of the label ‘Atsu’ epitomized sheer panels, fringes, tassels, ruffled hemlines, plunging necklines and high slits with dusty shimmer speckled to perfection.
Karishma Shahani Khan whose label Ka-Sha is known for endorsing sustainable fashion basked in its signature glory of elaborate layers, tie-n-dye prints, tassels and fringes and cropped jackets with ruffled detailing on a canvas of indigo and organic shades of mustard, berry, purple, red and tangerine. The wanderer vibe, the boho spirit and the earthy language made it an easily wearable collection.
Ujjwal Dubey’s label ‘Antar Agni’ went for an all black collection that was androgynous and stood out for its construction technique that was evident in the asymmetrical kurtas, geometrical separates and deep necklines.
Schulen Fernandes the prodigy of Wendell Rodricks presented a collection for the label. Remaining true to the design philosophy of the brand, the collection was in white with trapezoidal geometric shapes and unconventional cuts that exude a breezy vibe.
Apart from these constellation of designers there were also shows by Myoho, Shift and Quirkbox and a segment titled ‘Gen Next Show’.
