It Just GoT Fashionable!

Braided hair, flowy gown and chunky jewelry… Yes, we are talking about the fashionable ladies of the most watched HBO hit series, Game of Thrones (GoT), which is a medieval fantasy epic drama.

It’s not just the story and the location which has gotten people addicted to the series but also the fashionable young women of the show. Be it Cersei Lannister, Sansa Stark, Margaery Tyrell or everyone’s favorite Daenerys Targaryen, it’s not just the character which makes us fall in love with them or hate them but the overall presentation of the character. Costume and styling plays a very important role in making a certain character the way they are. It is said that the show’s costumes are inspired by many different cultures and times such as British (Victorian Era or may be older), Persian and Japanese. The hairstyles which we adore so much actually consist of about two dozen wigs which are used for our leading ladies.

So here (in It just GoT Fashionable!) we discover who is the creator of such wonderful medieval costumes?

Michele Clapton is a costume designer from England who has worked in both film and TV. She has found the most success designing for television period dramas and has also worked on the costumes for Sense & Sensibility, The Devil’s Whore, and The Diary of Anne Frank. Her most known work is no doubt Game of Thrones, for which she has won numerous awards including Emmy and many applauds.

So what makes these above ladies stand out? Is it the high neckline dresses or the magnificent embroidery, which has gotten us nuts about them?

“The embroidery is a subliminal way to tell someone’s story,” says Michele Clapton, who has brought in Carragher, a longtime friend and collaborator, for the show that is in the midst of its fifth season. Each and every outfit has a reason and detail behind it. Clapton, who oversees creation of 120 principal costumes a season, has a team which ranges from 70 to 100 people and includes leather workers, cutters and jewelers.

The much awaited season 5 has finally been telecasted with our favorite ladies looking as smoking hot as ever. With Cersei’s well-fitted medieval dress with flowy sleeves, broad belt, a pendant on a long chain and a wine goblet or Daenerys’s sheer pastel gown and boots or the plunging neckline maxi dresses worn by Margaery Tyrell (who has very recently emerged as the most iconic fashionable character on Game of Thrones), viewers are not going to be disappointed with season 5’ fashion quotient.

Since it would be difficult to get hold of Michele Clapton, GoT fans need not be disappointed. There are some high-end fashion designers and designer houses which have similar looking costume options. So do check out Jean-Paul Gaultier, Gareth Pugh (His spring 2013), Alexander McQueen, Derek Lam (His fall 2013 collection), or the more imperial designs by the House of Valentino, to get themselves some of their favorite GoT ladies’ influenced costumes.
