In India, all our festivals are celebrated with much pomp and grandeur and Ganesh Chaturthi happens to be one such festival, but where the celebration goes on for days. Though the Ganesh Chaturthi is for a day, people bring the statue of Ganesha home for 2 days, 7 days or 11 days and every day is a celebration with Bhajan’s, nach-gana, and scrumptious food.
This Ganesh Chaturthi I was having a conversation with a dear friend and she told me that she didn’t know how to make Modak, which happens to be Lord Ganesh’s favorite food. So we thought why not give our readers recipe for Ganehsa’s favorite indulgence Modak albeit with a twist.
SOUL, along with Chef Aman Tandon (of Pride Hotels), brings you an array of Ganesha’s favourite Modaks in a modern avatar of Belgian Dark and Milk White Chocolates. It is a gooey offering to the naughty baby Ganesha (the lord of success, and destroyer of evils and obstacles) by his devotees who are also known as ‘Ganapatyas’.
Ingredients:
– 1 cup khoya/mava each for Dark Chocolate and White chocolate Modaks
– 3/4 cup icing sugar each
– 1/2 cup milk powder each
– 150 gms white chocolate compound
-300 gms dark chocolate compound
– Vanilla essence – a few drops
Method:
- Sauté the mava, cocoa powder & milk powder over low heat until mixed properly
- Take it off the heat
- Stir in the icing sugar & leave to cool down to room temperature, mix in the vanilla essence.
- Divide into two parts each one for white chocolate mulled into one part and the other with molten dark chocolate pored over.
- Give it the shape from the mould, line up a plate with alternate placement of both dark and white modaks.
- Pour in some kesar basundi making a great prasadam for LORD GANESHA.
SOUL Tip: why not involve the children of the house in making the sweet and offer it to the naughty lord by the naughty ones of the house.
(Watch out this place for another of Lord Ganehsa’s favorite sweet.)
- Aman Tandon
