Mornings in my house begin with a sleepy trip into the kitchen. As I make the morning tea, prepare breakfast, cook for lunch, pack boxes, wash and also clean up at the same time, I wonder, what life would be without a well organized kitchen. Someone has rightly said, ‘If you can organize your kitchen, you can organize your life’. And here are some tips to help you with both, efficiently and effectively.
With the main purpose of Modern kitchens being cooking, and each family having its own individual style (depending upon people, taste and eating habits), I recommend that you should style it accordingly. As compared to some people who love to bake and boil at every opportunity presented, some go to the kitchen only once a day. Create your space to match your individual needs by installing equipments that make cooking a faster and fun-filled process.
Start with organizing for a good cooking surface. Whether you cook on the stove more often, or bake more than you cook, create space that lets you operate easily at a convenient height. While installing surfaces, use materials that are easy to clean and heat resistant.
Customized cabinets are one space feature that I love and continue to recommend. These offer one radical change in helping kitchens more space-worthy. Made to suit the size and needs of the kitchen, these spaces provide for closed/open displays with wood/glass that helps to easily organize plenty of items. Larger cabinets can also be equipped with wire racks and sliding baskets to help organize items of all sizes. Concealed baskets are also a perfect hideout for unsightly items like dustbins, making the kitchen look clean and smell fresh.
Kitchen chimneys are important equipments, that are also often undervalued. These help to keep the kitchen clean and reduce cooking odours and greasy marks. Opt for branded traditional or designer chimneys that come in great styles. And buy a size of appropriate capacity that suits your cooking style and cooking frequency.
Washing is another time-taking area, with work being made difficult through difficult faucets and inconvenient sinks. Make use of high pressure faucets and suitable sinks that can ease washing to a large extent. I have also installed garbage crushers in my sink to help crush garbage and prevent clogging pipes. This greatly helps to reduce time often wasted in cleaning blocked sinks.
Dishwashers are another great addition for the busy. Fully automated, these machines wash dishes quickly, smartly and easily. Today, these are available in interesting designs too, adding to the look of your modern kitchen, and making it a place you want to be in for longer.
Water filters are another essential kitchen requirement. While most homes have these, usually they do not suit the size, style and requirements of homes. Survey the market and install equipment that suits your needs, rather than the other way round.
Last but not the least, a safe kitchen is a suitable kitchen. Avoid using curtains or materials that ignite quickly. Also keep appliances and switches away from the reach of inquisitive children. For a long time, I too had installed a safety gate at the entrance of my kitchen to keep away my inquisitive toddler.
