So the last few months have been full of fashion weeks, starting from India to New York, London, Milan and finally Paris, which also marks the last destination of the Big 4s. After the east and the west, now was the time for the Far East to show their talent in the fashion department. Japan known for its immense talent, innovation and technology scored high in the fashion arena as well. The “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week TOKYO 2016 S/S” just got over. The event ran from October 12th to 18th, with over 50 brands participating in the show.
Each designer came up with a unique collection ranging from traditional kimonos to the hard rock n’ roll aesthetics of the Yoshiki’s Yoshikimono. The designer, who also happens to be a renowned musician, was seen playing classical music on a shimmering glass piano while his collection was being showcased sending the crowd hysterical with his music and his collection.
Steven Hall and Yurika Ohara’s ‘wild lost’ was inspired by imageries of Africa. The collection was full of stunning impressionistic prints and geometric interpretations that hinted at zebras, gazelles, sandy deserts, and lush jungles. The outlines were demure and were least flash or gaudy, at the same time they were fresh and appealing.
There was also an eclectic mix of Victoriana and 1970’s era style parading down the runway by Dresscamp designer Toshikazu Iwaya. Also seen were designer Yu Amatsu’s Hanae Mori Manuscript which was inspired by ‘The great lakes of the North American Mid-West’, and designer Masanori Morikawa’s soft and feminine collection which was partially inspired by his “childhood memories and the personal style of his current girlfriend.” There were other collections like Johan Ku Spring 2016 which was titled “Tadzio” after the youthful character in the novel and film “Death in Venice”, punk meets urban esthetic by Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio, Yasutoshi Ezumi’s strong yet delicate couture, and breathtakingly beautiful Divka Spring collection by Takayuki Tanaka and Motoyuki Matsumoto to name a few.
‘Beautiful People Spring 2016’ needs a special mention as this was a collection full of lady-like style and sophistication. Elegant dresses accentuated by boater hats, pastel hued-oxfords and cut-out sandals were seen walking down the runway which had an overall dreamy, yet fresh and modern effect. This was one collection which can be easily pictured being worn by style icons such as Kate Middleton or Natalie Portman.
The show was a mix of many culture, inspirations and aesthetics, and ended on a very successful and promising note.
