Just for some quick background, The Met Gala, which was formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
This time after observing the critics on social media, we don’t know why Rihana’s dress was criticized so severely in Met Gala 2015. I mean, yes, it is shocking yellow and yes, after seeing the memes we do agree it does look like an omelet (albeit a very tasty one), but come-on we got to cut some slack to the songstress for trying out something different and daring and not the usual mundane black and white combo or the metallic tones. Come on fashion critics, Rihana is young and going all over the places. This is the time for her to try out different stuff and be audacious and bold.
There has been over thousand tweets making fun of the dress, which was the result of years of work assembled pain-stakingly by 45-year-old Beijing-based designer Guo Pei, since ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ was the theme for this year’s Gala.
We also liked the head gear worn by Sarah Jessica Parker which was so very fiery red and oriental looking and was designed by designer Philip Treacy. SJP, who is a fashionista, has been spotted with a headgear on and off, and boy! she does carry it off so confidently. Kudos to both of them for carrying their respective dressing with aplomb and panache!
We believe, celebs wearing such outrageous and different gowns either enthuse or nauseate us. But whatever maybe the case, they surely make our jaw’s drop and cause us to sit-up and take notice. As they say, especially for the Red Carpet, ‘skin is always in’ but we are glad some of these celebs did try something different and daring. It does get a tad boring seeing the shimmer and elegance all the time. As long as a dress ain’t vulgar, we give them a thumb’s up for their ‘how to rock any dress’ confidence and attitude! They are the ones ultimately who create the most buzz, don’t they?
Apart from SJP and Rihana, it was Cara Delevingne with her cherry blossom inking, Zendaya Coleman in her Fausto Puglisi gown, J Lawrence in her Dior outfit, Selena Gomez in her Vera Wang gown, Beyonce with her high pony tail and the gorgeous toned body that caught our fancy, not to forget the legendry snap of Kim Kardashian’s and JLo’s posteriors clicked by none other than Mr. Kim Kardashian, Kanye West.
