It is often said that diamonds are ladies’ best friend! I am sure we all agree with the common phrase. I remember a conversation I once had with a friend who told me how she was explaining her husband to pick slick looking things for her in the terms of bags, shoes, belts and other stuff in general, BUT when it came to diamond always remember ‘the bigger it is, the happier I am going to be’.
It was very interesting and a pleasure to talk to a Hyderabad based Jewelry Designer Namita Singhvee a truly designer’s delight, who has been in the jewelry line since last 8 years. But that wasn’t her initial plan. Being a homemaker and happily involved in various charitable organization as well as her children and looking after the family, she was always complimented on the jewelry pieces she wore every now and then. It got her thinking and she finally decided to pursue her hobby of jewelry designing and got into it professionally.
Namita specializes in jewelry designing and making. Among all the gems, her favorite is Diamonds. That was 8years back. Now a successful entrepreneur and having her own jewelry brand, Namita has come a long way and plans to go much ahead. SOUL appreciates and congratulates such women who are go-getters and at the same time know how to balance professional and family life. SOUL presents excerpts of interaction with Namita to know about her personal views and showcase her finest work.
- Tell us about your foray into jewelry designing? How has the journey been?
I always had a fondness for jewelry and I remember whenever I use to wear a new piece, it always use to get appreciated by my friends and family. This got me thinking and I thought of starting my own label. Also my father’s side of family is into jewelry business which further made me certain of doing a professional course of designing, grading and assorting of diamonds. This was 8 years back and I can say the journey has been very smooth and appreciative.
- Tell us something about Namita Jewels?
My exhibition usually goes by “Namita Singhvee” but “Namita Jewels” is a good name that you have given me. I might just use it in future.
I do exhibitions all over India & also take made-to-do orders as well as customization. I am very passionate about jewelry. The satisfaction and happiness on my clients face matters the most when they leave my store. They have to be convinced and happy not just with the design but also with the price of the jewelry. For any creative person, appreciation is the most important thing. That’s what “Namita Singhvee” is all about.
- Can you elaborate on the whole process from customization to production of jewelry?
Apart from me, I have an in-house designer and my own karigars. We sit and design as per the customers requirements and once the customer is satisfied with the design, it goes for production.
- Has the mindset of people towards Diamond Jewelry changed?
Yes, it definitely has. Earlier times people had a mentality of buying a piece of jewelry as an investment. They would cut down on design as the making charge goes up with a fancy design and would opt for plain ones wherein they could buy two pieces instead of one. But now, people want designs which are trendy and at the same time has its value. They want to enjoy wearing the jewelry whether they are on a holiday or attending a function and not take it as a means of investment.
- What are your future plans?
My future plan is to open a designer studio and launch “Namita Singhvee” as a label. Also I am having my first international exhibition this year.
- Can you give our readers some basic tips to follow when buying diamond jewelry?
When buying diamond jewelry, the customer should be clear on what quality of diamonds does he\she want to buy as every diamond’s resale value differs! They should research thoroughly on the quality that they want and make sure it is certified from GIA(Gemological Institute of America) and IGI (International Gemological Institute) because that’s the proof of their purchase and confirmation of the quality of their diamond.
