“Those who said money can’t buy happiness didn’t know from where to shop”- Blair Waldorf
For those of us who grew up watching Gossip Girl, we have had a love-hate relationship with Blair Waldorf. This affluent Upper East Side resident is known for her sardonic sense of humour, scheming and plotting. But, there is one thing about her that we can’t deny – Blair has the most gorgeous wardrobe that would every fashionista dreams of owning! Despite the end of the Gossip girl series, Blair’s sartorial sensibilities and modishness coalesced with her unique personality continues to remain a reference point for many fashionistas. So what is it that defines Blair Waldorf’s passion for fashion?
Penchant for the classic
For Blair it is classic and vintage all the way! Victorian blouses, abundant prints, overwhelming ruffles, pleated skirts, lacework, shift dresses, baroque style, trench coats, playful stockings and everything else that is unapologetically feminine and graceful. Even during her High school phase, we can find her playing with her uniform to give it an uber-chic touch that makes school uniforms “oh-I-so-want-it-now” wardrobe bucket list! She is high-fashion defined!
Micro-details
She is meticulous when it comes to details. Proof-blouses with pussybow, ruffled detailing on the bustline, sleeves and neckline, peplum, bows and rosettes.
Jewelleries and Accessories
Blair Waldorf is all about signature headbands. From Season 1 we found her donning floral, crystal, metallic or sometimes classic headbands either to school or elsewhere. My favourite headband look of Blair is the pink blooming flower headband that she wore in Season 1 for Bart Bass and Lily Vanderwoodsen’s wedding.
When it comes to jewellery, she prefers to keep it subtle, understated and sleek. She is usually spotted wearing statement jewellery when she is heading for lavish parties otherwise she is more of a dainty handcuffs, pendant neckpieces and not too fussy earrings girl. She is a study in contrast to her on-and-off best friend Serena Vanderwoodsen, another Upper East sider, who defines grunge, bohemian, dare-to-back sexy and bold, statement jewellery. But when it comes to Blair she lets her silhouette do all the talking. I loved the long pearl neckpiece that she wore in Season 4 in the episode where she goes out for shopping with Dorotha, her housekeeper! The entire look comprised of beige ruffled blouse, red plaid skirt, black fitted shrug and a red hat. Another jewellery look of hers that stayed with me was the gold-pearl neckpiece that settled beautifully on her neck and was teamed with a floral macro-printed, green ruffled gown in Season 3 for the library benefit event!
All about Spring/Summer
For summers Blair channels separates rightly justifying her swag! She coordinates a flared blouse with fitted skirt and vice-versa leading to a well-balanced look. A pop of colour, pastels, fruity and floral prints are Blair’s summer favorites! I loved the apple printed blouse teamed with a contrasting apple printed balloon skirt and powder blue beret that she donned in her Paris trip in Season 4 episode 1. No one can do the clash print trend like her! Also the onion printed Dolce & Gabbana top with a collar detailing that she was spotted wearing in Season 6 episode 1 was just fab.
All about Fall/Winter Wardrobe
Our Queen B is also the Queen of layering. Pleated trench coats, trench coats with military-chic vibes, ruffled, bejewelled and pearl encrusted shrugs, blazers, houndstooth kimonos, plaids, metallic, bling, neons and pastels. She has hit all the macro and micro trends reminding to the world that she is the ultimate fashion diva. It is really difficult to pick any particular look of her’s yet I would say that it was the yellow blouse, patterned skirt and green shrug look from Season 4 during her W internship period that cut quite a poised picture! Another look that has made me want to steal her wardrobe is the white military style trench coat synchronized with green plaid scarf that she wore in Season 4 in the episode where she goes to Chuck Bass to warn him about his uncle’s arrival in town!
Party and event wardrobe
Blair is nothing if not event appropriate. She always wears the most exquisite dresses that enhance her intrinsic elegance. She does justice to her looks with equally fetching footwear and bags that are every fashionista’s aspiring arm candy. I loved her in the red bustier style gown that she wore in Season 5 for Valentine’s day, the fiery orange, ruffled gown in Season 4 episode 2, the aqua blue floral printed halter-neck gown that she wore in Season 4 for the Ballet event and black baroque style gown she donned in Season 5 ‘Despicable B’ episode amongst others.
In Season 6 we witness a transition in her personal style as becomes more inclined towards dresses for everyday wear, justifying her new role as the director of Waldorf designs!
