The Fashion Week SS16 continues to its last stop i.e. Paris. French people are known for their sophistication and style and they did not let us down with some of the most innovative and at the same time bizarre display of fashion at the event.
Let’s begin with the array of colors that lit up the Eiffel Tower to mark the Paris Fashion Week. It was an initiative by the Parisian Mayor Anne Hidalgo. “We use the Eiffel very rarely, only for planetary-size events,” said the politician, who wore a Dior coat. “It’s the commitment of the city towards the industry of fashion.” She plans to reprise the illuminations every season.
The designers who showcased their collection and left an impression on us in the Paris Fashion Week were Rick Owens, Chloé , Paco Rabanne, Maison Margiela with his DIY ideas to his Fifties-flecked ladylike daywear and sinuous evening dresses, Karl Lagerfeld with the prints of his adorable cat ‘birman’ donning an electric guitar or wearing a giant sunhat won many hearts, Bouchra Jarrar with her fusion of masculine and feminine elements and last but not the least Balmain with his signature trait of ‘supersexy new ways to show skin collection’ consisting of high-texture tops and skirts, flat diamond cutouts and fishnet spins on the bodysuit along with intricately wrought tribal patterns macramé gowns.
Spotted at the event were the whole of the Jenner clan dressed in Balmain with momager Kris Jenner in the designer’s ready-to-wear knit cardigan from Balmain Fall 2015 collection. Also facing the worst nightmare of any celebrity, Ms. Jenner laughed off the faux-pas that was made when she & Italian fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni turned up in the same striped maxi-cardigan for the show. Another favorite Jenner woman, Kendall Jenner, wore Balmain off the ramp while dining out with pals dressed in a breast-bearing Balmain halter with sheer chiffon pants. Kendall finally made her Paris Fashion Week debut by walking the ramp for Balmain’s Spring/Summer 16 collection.
Rick Owens is another noteworthy designer who showcased his unusual theme of ‘women carrying women’. The designer was seen explaining before the start of the show ‘how he conscripted gymnasts and dancers to portray the acts of supporting, cradling and even giving birth’. Owen said very clearly that his intentions were to admire the mystery of what a woman is. Rick who is a controversy magnet has been in the news for ‘framing the penis’ during a recent men’s fashion show. No matter what others say but we clearly enjoyed the woman backpacks on the runway. Though it may shock many, we found it to be artful, provoking and extremely innovative with the good intention and message the theme aimed to communicate.
