If the first day of the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017 paid homage to the rich crafts and textile heritage of the country, the second day was an ode to India’s brilliant fashion designers whose collections set the ramp on fire.
Samantha Chauhan started the second day of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017 with an amazing off-site fashion show at the National Rail Museum, taking everyone on a wistful trip to the olden days. Titled “Golden Threads of Assam”, the collection was dedicated to the reverential “Queen of Textiles”, the Muga silk and inspired by musings of his early travel days. Done in the earthy tones of creams, whites, vanilla, and khaki, the collection featured his signature style, indo-western silhouettes on regal anarkalis, A-lines dresses, off-shoulder crop tops, long breezy jackets with knife pleated circular skirts. But what truly stole the show was the tea served in kulhads with crisp matthis.
With the intent of celebrating the beauty of individuality, Huemn took to the stage to launch its first ever collection of denim, puffer jackets, and raincoats. Heavily inspired from the socio-economic and political ambience of the country, the collection showcased designs with strong emphasis on construction, fits and fall. The amazing styling notwithstanding, the show-stealer was definitely the contemporary, on-the- go version of the blanket.
Anupama Dayal’s collection, ‘The Sacred Forest’, was a visual delight to behold with models gliding on the ramp in flowy, floral, and feminine ensembles of indo-western cuts. Taking a cue from nature’s canvas, maxi skirts, dresses and tops were adorned in hues of parakeet green, daffodil yellow, indigo and burgundy. A special mention to the exaggerated earrings worn by the models.
Hemant & Nandita showcased their collection of beautiful autumn vintage motifs done on brocade, taffeta, textured organza, and velvet. Featuring jackets, coats, floaty ruffled dresses and corset belts, the collection was a contemporary twist to vintage motifs in pastel pinks and olive greens.
Vineet Bahl presented a glamorous yet minimalistic collection of everyday separates with a touch of fur, leather and rivets added to give it a grunge plunge. Using layerings and boho-luxe elements in browns, blacks and monochromes, the collection was all about understated goth punk style.
The designer duo of Pankaj & Nidhi showcased “Telefunk”, a dramatic collection set in sharp monochromatic color palette of blacks and whites with blue bringing in the fun element. The ensembles were done with amazing patchwork prints with lots of surface texture, embellishments, leather appliques and fringes to create a collection that wowed everyone.
The show for Pero happened at the Kulu Hut in the National Crafts Museum, fitting for a collection that had a very eclectic and playful vibe to it. Inspired by the cultures of China and Latin America, the models flaunted breezy, bohemian outfits with flowing silhouettes, flamboyant stripes with tassels, and neon-hued floral embroideries, while the tribal tunes playing in the background kept the ambience vibrant and upbeat.
