Hey you guys, last year fashion went eclectic like never before – Whether it was the ruffles, cold-shoulder and bardot, that reveled in drama and unapologetic femininity, to athleisure becoming the ‘new cool’ to some of the biggest collaborations between Estee Lauder and Victoria Beckham, Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger and between Rihanna and Puma which also witnessed another historic moment with Rihanna becoming the first woman to win the shoe of the year award for creepers . The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton visited India mid-year and bowled us over with her regal fashion aesthetics and all this while we ensured that we cover everything for you so that you remain updated with the latest in style and fashion! With 2017 already here, it’s time to make a checklist of the latest fashion trends along with my personal tips on how to don them like a pro. So here we go!
One: Ruffles and One-shoulder – Some of the major fashion weeks namely New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week and London Fashion Week forecasted that the 2016 favourite ruffles and one-shoulder are here to stay. Expect the macro details of ruffles to grow more flouncy and define pulchritude by accentuating the hands and neckline! Similarly off-shoulder is here to stay and play peek-a- boo!
Doing ruffles can get tricky but if done right it can pepper the right dose of drama. Sleek and barely-there accessories synchronize best with ruffled outfits. One-shoulder detail is a smart way to show skin and hence it’s better to steer clear of neckpieces and instead vouch for a shoulder-length dangler to make those sexy shoulders the focal point!
Two: Stripes – If you thought stripes can only gel well with your corporate look then think again! This classic print is going to rule 2017 and expect experimentation from sailor stripes to pinstripes and tribal stripes. In other words get ready for the new age explosion of good old stripes! Taking a cue from Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spring-Summer 2017 line’s vibrant stripe-on-stripe is a very much wearable option. This summer for a fun GDO (Girls Day Out silly!) off-shoulder vibrant stripes top coordinated with a striped skirt, concluded with a sling box clutch (another one of the fashion trends for 2017) lends a fun and quirky twist to your personality!
Three: Pink – For all my fashionistas who cannot do without pink in their wardrobe this is your year! Despite Greenery being the Pantone Colour of 2017, pink has stolen the thunder with hues of strawberry, rose, deep cherry, raspberry, fuchsia and bubblegum splashing in all its glory! The Paris Fashion Week S/S 2017 saw the overwhelming predilection with fuschia pink from Bottega Veneta to Balenciaga! Playing up with vibrant pink shades indicates going minimalistic with accessories. Instead of jewellery, experiment with sunglasses. Pair your fuchsia outfit with clear lenses, ombre lenses or edgy aviator sunglasses.
Four: Sky-high Platforms – Going lofty with your thoughts is not enough, this year go high with your shoes too. Ditch the comfort of sneakers for a change and welcome sky-high platforms that will blend seamlessly from slip-on dresses to cold-shoulders and ruffles.
Five: Slogan tees – This trend is sure to scorch the campus for its cool and wearability factor. Being activist chic with slogans that address ethical issues is definitely going be one of the hallmarks of 2017. Stella McCartney and Dior have already led the way on the slogans that are bound to drive home a point. I am simply loving this fashion with conscience trend and hope that it’s here to stay!
Six: Sheer – Go bold this year because sheer has come dawning vroom vroom big! Flaunt your dare-to-bare side with this international rage by embracing dope underpinnings beneath the sheer panels. If you shy away from sheer panels, go for embellished sheer layerings for a graceful vibe.
Seven: Babydoll – If you have been mesmerized by Ariana Grande’s babydoll looks then this summer get ready to romance with lace, bows and ribbons on a canvas of candy and flirty hues. This trend was seen flaunted on the runway by Fendi and Chloe. It would work best for women with petite frames. Top knot, voluminous mascara and a coral pout make a dream team together to emphasize the babydoll look!
Eight: Velvet – Be it home décor trends or fashion, the jewel tone effect of velvet has cast its magic this season. Back home Sabyasachi Mukherjee has been experimenting with this regal fabric for quite some time now. We suggested last year that this trend is a bomb and a must have for your winter wardrobe, 2016. It now continues its undisputed reign into 2017.
Those were the top fashion trends to watch out for this year, so gift yourself the latest fashion trends of 2017 and continue to stay in style my fashionistas!
