The fourth day of the FDCI India Couture Week 2016 belonged to the maverick designer Gaurav Gupta and his mesmerizing collection for the new bride to-be. With his eye-catching pieces and striking runway, the collection got applauds from everyone for its brilliant styling. His latest couture line titled ‘Scape Goat’ was a treat for the eyes and every creation was infused with his sartorial brilliance.
His official collection note stated, “This is a song of scape. Of fluid structures, of frozen waves. Creating new cultures of where we are. A culture not belonging to an era or place but scaping many referrals. From Greek, Roman, Indian and English but twisted to the new eye…This is The new age Royal. Progressive, yet rooted.” And it could not have been described better. The runway was designed to mirror his inspirations with elaborate caves and sea shells done to create the perfect ambience, the music providing the perfect background.
Inspired by the elements of water, the ever-flowing and the frozen, the collection consisted of dramatically structured gowns, ball gowns, multi-layered skirts and sarees draped in unusual ways and unique silhouettes done in the designer’s signature style. Done in a colour palette that went from the pastel shades of blues, pinks and greens, to ivory and white, and finally beiges, browns and red, the whole range had a lot of dramatic ruffles, pleats and textures on the creations and hiked up the flame factor of the line. The collection had a dazzling Swarovski effect to it as the designer experimented with the crystals in all his ensembles. It was an ode to nature, and to the modern Indian bride who loves to wear contemporary wear with an Indian touch to it.
The showstopper for the night was debutante actress Saiyami Kher of upcoming movie Mirzya, who wore a breathtaking pastel blue and silver ruffled-ensemble done in crystal mesh fabric by Swarovski and looked drop-dead gorgeous. It was her debut runway too and she could not have nailed it better. She was all praises for the designer and said that she has never looked prettier.
