Most of us are busy living lives that is ordinary and conventional and is influenced by Homogeneity, Conformity, Monotony and Uniformity. It’s always exciting to acknowledge and celebrate creativity, innovation and variation.
Do You DIY??? There are so many things to embrace about making things by hand- the Ingenuity, Dedication, Financial Savings, Customization, Lessening the environment footprint by Reducing, Recycling and Reusing items. And most importantly, making things is FUN. DIY helps to retain the original façade but adds life to the house along with giving a chance to explore the imaginative bent of mind.
DIY also known as “Do It Yourself”. The rising costs of Education, proliferating student debts, and an uncertain job market is making all of us look for ways to balance our expenditure. Everyone has a certain lifestyle and status to maintain, and I believe, your house reflects that the most. So everyone wishes for an accommodation that pleases your mind aesthetically and ruminates your character. Simplest Way out would be to hire a professional person to design your house into a home but have you ever wondered how it is going to feel if you take up the opportunity to bring out the unexplored designer in you. Because we all know that “the Enemy of Creativity is Self Doubt”. DIYs can bring life to your space in the best possible way. Like Walt Disney said “If you can dream it, you can do it”.
When you design something personally, you not only save money but also build a deeper connection to it. In case you design your cushion cover, it will not just hold value for a good head rest, but it will bring in a sense of satisfaction and you may dream all day about going back to it. DIY creates a path of freedom for you. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes with decorating your room/home all by yourself. DIY bedroom décor is your own masterpiece of decoration. No one can understand a kid better than his/her mother. Redecorating your kid’s room, reflecting his/her choice can be the best birthday present he can get. Also most tenants do not have the freedom to renovate their space. Living in places that you do not love or reconnect to, especially with teenagers or newly weds, can get pretty depressing. DIY’s provides you with the opportunity to rejuvenate the existing products and throw them into another life altogether. I believe, it is very important to have an escape from the world, the harsh realities of life, a place to experience a sense of peace, recharge your energy, a place for reconnecting and dreaming. What place suits better than your home designed by you. It allows you to drink a glass of peace and pride every time you have a look at it. The awesome thing about room décor is everyone can have a different idea of what that retreat will look like. There is no right and wrong to this.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “ Ever Artist was first an Amateur”.
Soul had a chance to have a word with Ms. Aarti Sharma and she sets a perfect example on inspiring each one of us to bringing out the unexplored designer lying within.
Aarti – “ I work with leading digital agency called AliveNow as their Operations Head! Needless to say the job is demanding and squeezes the juice out of you. But I have always had a mind set of leaving the work pressure at office and coming home to solace! In Bangalore, finding nice houses in my area is kind of a pain. So I figured the only way I can come home to something that resonates me and reflects my personality is if I make it mine. And weekend after weekend I kept adding little pieces of me in every nook and corner. And turned out my home became the warm and cozy hangout joint for all my people here and me too!”
Ms. Aarti agreed on sharing beautiful pictures of her DIY’s and also sharing how she got her way through it. I am overwhelmed with your response Aarti.
Aarti- “ I kept all the maps and tickets when I was backpacking Europe and stuck them on my wall! I feel like I come back home to my home and not just plain walls. Also, all those Breezed bottles lying around found their way as my night lights!!I colored the bottles out light in them and voila. And I wrote something for me as a reminder not to give up. Usually when you stay by youself you forget where to drive your motivation from!! So I found this to be the best way. Not getting the feeling of being alone emotionally when you are physically. Only pictures of your loved ones on your walls can fill that gap. And tag lining my loved ones with birds only takes it to another level”.
Soul- “ Thank you so much Aarti. Your attitude towards life and zeal to live it filled with colors has motivated each one of us reading the article. I am definitely going to pick up my inspiration from your work and block this weekend to revamp my room that reflects ME!”
So, everyone there, are you ready to roll up your sleeves??? Let’s create the most beautiful things out of nothing. Because if you have fun in what you do, then there is nothing called an inadequate result.
