British Pop artist Adele wove her magic once again, this time sweeping away all the major categories at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards 2017! She won Song of the year, Album of the year and Record of the year for ‘Hello’. The ‘Rolling in the Deep’ star certainly had a rolling start to the year claiming victory to all the titles that she was nominated in for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards 2017. All the more so against none other than the ‘All the single ladies’ singer Beyonce!
Although Beyonce won the Best Urban Contemporary Album with her album Lemonade, she lost to the British powerhouse Adele in the more august categories. Adele was overwhelmed with the victory. Her sheer disbelief fused with a buoyant euphoria was manifested in her acceptance speech, “My dream and my idol is Queen Bey, and I adore you and you move my soul every single day and you have done so for nearly 17 years, and I adore you and want you to be my mummy”. After basking in the glory of her inspiring triple victory, Adele felt that the album Lemonade by her inspiration Beyonce had all the right ingredients to make it to the album of the year.
The doyennes’ musical comeback with the album ‘Hello’ began enjoying its penultimate moment right from the distinguished British Awards 2016 where she bagged home British Single Award, British Female Solo Artist Award, British Global Success Award and Mastercard British Album of the Year.
While Adele’s stentorian voice, profound lyrics and vivacious personality won hearts worldwide, she has constantly been under the scanner for her body weight and has been subjected to body shaming on several occasions. But Adele has proved time and again that talent, compassion and an optimistic attitude will not just take you miles but also kick away all the negative vibes. Take the case of her string of Guinness World Records for being the first female to have two singles and two albums simultaneously in UK Top 5. Secondly her being the first solo artist to hold the number one spot in the UK for the most consecutive weeks (eleven) with her album ‘21’. Thirdly, her album ‘21’ broke the record for the most cumulative weeks (eighteen) for a solo female artist at number 1 in the week. If this is not enough, here’s more – her album ‘21’ ran for twenty-three weeks in USA and ensconced the numero uno position making it the longest running in that top rank since 1985!
Adele spent four years in the prestigious British school where she honed her musical skills and graduated in 2006 in Performing arts and Technology. Right after her graduation she signed a recording contract by XL Recordings which was an outcome of her friend’s posting a demo of her on Myspace.
Critical and commercial success has kissed the feet of this legendary singer from an early age. In 2008, her album ‘19’ was certified seven times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US. We at soul would like to wish the ‘Skyfall’ star a bouquet of success for her win at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards 2017!
